Substantive bill drafting requests received by staff at the North Carolina General Assembly are up over 35% comparing the end of the first week of the 2007 Regular Session with the same point in the 2005 Regular Session. The increase was 42% in the Research Division and 33% in the Bill Drafting Division, indicating that interim study commission work was on the uptick, since the Research Division supplies primary staff to most studies. Excluded from totals from both sessions are blank bills requests.
