Comparing Perdue and Easley action on post session bill signings

As of Sunday, August 30, 2009 the 19th day of 30 for action, six bills remained on Governor Beverly Perdue’s desk out of the 108 that had been pending at the August 12, 2009 adjournment. A total of 102 bills (94% of the total) have been signed.

In 2007, at the August 2, 2007 adjournment 208 bills were on Governor Easley’s desk for action, as of day 19 of 30 for action, 133 bills still remained. A total of 75 bills had been signed by the nineteenth day, 36% of the total.

    The North Carolina FY 2008-2009 budget bill, House Bill 2436, was signed into law today at 3:52 pm today.  We received the signed bill in the Enrolling Office at 4:20 pm and has been chaptered as Session Law 2008-107.  A link to the signed budget on the web is here.

    The Governor had until midnight, September 1, 2007, to act on those bills.

    House Bill 1761, which the Governor has vetoed is eligible for reconsideration and override in a reconvened session which will begin no later than Tuesday, September 11.

    As of 2 p.m. Friday, August 31, 2007, 20 bills remain on the Governor’s desk for action by the midnight Saturday deadline.  Any bills not signed or vetoed by then become law Sunday, September 2, 2007. We plan to process Saturday and Sunday the last days of bill signings.  Any bills signed Friday evening will be posted on this site around 3 pm on Saturday. Any bills that might become law without the Governor’s signature might not be processed until after the Labor Day holiday, however.

    Our “pending on the Governor’s desk link” might still show those 20 bills until Tuesday, but the “laws enacted in 2007” link will update as soon as the bills are processed here.
